SARASWATI DAY A CELEBRATION OF KNOWLEDGE

Bali’s Hindu community will celebrate Saraswati Day on 19th November 2011. This is an auspicious day on the local calendar that honours knowledge, wisdom and all forms of higher learning. Dewi Saraswati is the beautiful Goddess of Knowledge, Art and Literature. Giant statues of this revered deity can be found in every Balinese school, university and learning institute. She is depicted as having four arms and in each she carries a symbolic object related to the pursuit of knowledge. On this day, the Balinese bless books and other educational paraphernalia with special offerings, a waft of incense and a splash of holy water. Students also pray together for future academic success.

BALI'S INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT UNDER EXPANSION

Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport is currently carrying out a massive construction project to expand its terminal and parking facilities. Upon completion in 2013, the airport will be able to accommodate up to 25 million passengers per year. It will also be the first airport in Indonesia to be equipped with a state-of-theart security and baggage handling system. The early stages of construction are now underway and as a result some roads in the Tuban area have been closed temporarily. Guests are advised to anticipate increased traffic congestion around Kuta and plan for unforseen delays especially during the festive season.
