There is a choice of four traditional body treatments.
This exfoliation and body cleansing ritual has been used in the royal palaces of Central Java since the 17th century. A deliciously fragrant treatment, it is made from a blend of powdered spices and sweet woods, including turmeric and sandalwood. In ancient times, it was used to soften, refine and deep cleanse the skin and was most popular for brides to be. Today, some brides still prepare for their wedding day by enjoying daily Lulur the week before the marriage. The body is coated with the vibrantly coloured paste, and left to dry slightly before being removed with gentle massage. A coating of yoghurt is then applied to further soften and nourish the skin.
This traditional Balinese specialty scrub is made from a mixture of indigenous ingredients including fresh cloves, pepper, nutmeg, cardamom, ginger and galangal. The Balinese use Boreh regularly, often adapting the spice mix to suit the presenting health problem. This particular mixture is traditionally used as a preventative and curative treatment for the health problems associated with colds or to relieve tired, aching muscles. A warming and wonderfully aromatic scrub, it is particularly good for relieving fever, headaches, muscle aches, arthritis and improving blood circulation. Cloves and finely ground rice are added to refine and soften the skin.
The paste is rubbed onto the skin, and then the guest is wrapped in a warming blanket. The warm spices produce a sensation of deep penetrating heat, which is enjoyed as the therapist administers a head and neck massage. After, the body is cooled with a refreshing cucumber body rub. This treatment is not recommended for pregnant women as it can direct heat away from the womb area.
Soothing Coconut Scrub
This gentle and nutrient rich scrub, made from freshly grated coconuts and turmeric, is perfect for sensitive or sunburned skin as it is not abrasive. The coconut works to gently exfoliate and nourish the skin, while the turmeric provides a deep cleanse. After the scrub, an all-natural handmade carrot body rub is applied to further condition the skin. This is a soothing and lusciously tropical experience.
Bali Coffee Scrub
The main ingredient in this invigorating scrub is finely ground Balinese coffee beans. The other ingredient, which lends an air of magic, is volcanic pumice from Bali’s sacred mountains. This exfoliating scrub will smooth and refine the skin and elevate the mood. Bali Coffee Scrub is an intoxicatingly aromatic experience that will leave the skin smooth and polished to perfection. After the scrub, a carrot body rub is applied to condition the skin. Refreshing and stimulating, this treatment aims to rejuvenate the skin and arouse the senses.
