Social media strategy is still something that does not have a wide grasp amongst small business and entrepreneurs. I am asked daily how using social media will help a small business gain customers. I train and coach small business owners how to use social media strategy for customer acquisitionMany still believe that having a Twitter and Facebook Fan page will do the trick. Although these are helpful tools, there are few more tips you need to utilize to turn a fan or a follower into a customer.

I am going to share three quick tips to help you find new customers, and to maintain current ones. Get out your pen and pad kids, it is time for your lesson.   1. Be personable

Use your own picture in your profile. People want to see people, not just a logo. If someone posts a question on your page or tweets a question, answer immediately. Humanize your brand. If you are selling a product, especially clothing or jewelry, show people who you are, and this is also a great opportunity to showcase your product. Engaging with a customer or potential customer builds trust and great relationships. People buy from companies and brands they trust. Being transparent in social media helps build trust.

  1. Search, Search, Search

There are millions of tweets on Twitter and millions of posts on Facebook daily. Search for the buzz that may be about your business. Use Google alerts, search hash tags that relate to your industry, or use an online reputation management company who will do this for you. You need to go where the conversations are, they are not coming to you. Another great tip is to search for your competitors. See what is being said about them. You can use that opportunity to engage and find new customers by searching who is following your competition. Take the time out to say hello, and ask them to check you out. This is great, especially if your competition has not already taken the time to engage with the potential customer. Good searches relevant to your business and brand can help you target potential customers by being personable and human. No one likes an immediate sales pitch.

  1. Host a Giveaway or Promotion

Everyone likes something FREE! No better way to appeal to this is to host a giveaway or promotion. Be careful about what you are offering. You do not want to attract someone who is not in your target demographic. That is why this is a strategy right? Right! When you host a giveaway, make sure you provide a clear CALL TO ACTION! When I host giveaways, I ask for a LIKE, RETWEET (RT) or a REPIN, depending on what platform you are using! Make the promotion easy to share on the platform where you are hosting the giveaway. Like for Facebook, RT for Twitter, REPIN for Pinterest! I have had many great returns where I have turned a winner into a customer. Make sure you are giving something away of value. The whole point is to turn them into a customer right? Use social media promotions to drive traffic to your site.
