Comparing Remodeling Companies Apples To Oranges

Does price matter when you start shopping around for a remodeling company? Absolutely! Even wealthy people have a budget and are money conscious. Our societal norms tell us that if two products are identical, and one is cheaper than the other, then you would choose the cheaper of the two products. This is how majority of consumers spend their money. When spending money on a general contractor or remodeling company, you must keep in mind the old cliché of “comparing apples to apples”, not “apples to oranges”.

There is a need to do comparison for the choosing of the right αντιστηριξη for the building. The spending of the money is with the skills and intelligence to have the best apartment available. The meeting of the needs is possible for the people.

When you start your search to find a remodeling company you will most likely: ask family and friends if they can recommend anybody, check the Better Business Bureau, reference Angie’s List, and like most consumers you will do a general Google search. When you start to compare your findings you must remember one key ingredient, not all remodeling companies are created equal! First and foremost, the companies you have quoting your project should provide you with a written quote. This is the easiest way to start comparing your “apples”. This written proposal should include all work that is to be completed, and in some instances work that will not be completed. Make sure you ask questions! Proposals can include industry specific terms that are not used by the regular consumer on a daily basis

If there are line items that you do not understand, ask them to clarify. If they give vague answers or say don’t worry about it, scratch that company off the list! If you start to compare the written proposals side by side, compare the amount of detail in the quote to the price. There should be a correlation. For example, the proposal with the least amount of detail is usually the cheapest in price. While the proposals with more detail may be higher in price, you usually get a better bang for your buck. The most important thing to remember here is cheaper isn’t always better.

So you have found two remodeling companies that are offering very similar proposals and pricing, what do you do now? Start digging deeper! Having only one or two companies selected means you are now comparing apples to apples. All other fruit has been eliminated! As you dig deeper this is what you should look for and ask yourself: do they have a good standing with the Better Business Bureau, are they a member of Angie’s List with positive reviews, are there past customers you may call, do they belong to any reputable remodeling organizations such as the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI), and how long have they been in business?

Let’s face facts. Even after picking a reputable company you feel comfortable will provide you with an outstanding result, unforeseen circumstances almost always arise when remodeling. Remodeling companies can’t see through walls to check on the condition of certain structures or even how previous craftsmanship was completed. It is how a remodeling company handles these issues that makes or breaks their reputation. How will the company with the lowest priced quote handle these issues? Will they cut corners; will they try to squeeze more money from you as the job continues? Cheaper isn’t always better when it comes to remodeling. Select a company with a good reputation that has been in business for a decent length of time, with good reviews, and a company process and culture you can believe in.
