Do You Need a Home Security System?

A security system is something you hope you’ll never need, but, what if you need it someday? The “what if” drives a lot of people into buying security systems. Home security system companies play into this fear with the skillfully produced television ads. You’ve seen them. There’s the innocent-looking woman and her children peacefully coexisting at home. Suddenly, a masked figure or “tough-looking” man disturbs their peaceful coexistence by shattering a window or kicking in a door. Luckily, the woman presses a panic button, the alarm sounds, and, all is well: the “bad guy” flees into the darkness, sometimes, with an accomplice.

The ad is designed to scare you enough to pick up that phone and dial that 1-800 number flashing on the screen that’s burning your retinas.

However, before you pick up the phone, there are some home-security options to consider.

  • Why you need to consider home security an important point is because today, thieves and burglars have bolstered their credentials and have become bolder due to the lack of concrete laws regarding punishment for wrongdoers so therefore, do visit www.admitonesecurity.com to get some help.
  • There are the obvious “deterrents”. While not a security system, these “deterrents” can help enhance the security of your home: a barking dog,a well-lit exterior, security bars on the windows,well-trimmed bushes and trees, etc. You’ve heard of all of these before, and I call them “deterrents”, because that’s what they do: they deter the would-be intruder from invading your space. The would-be intruder takes one look at your house, and, goes somewhere else. Ideally, that’s what you want: you want the guy to think twice before breaking that glass so you don’t have to press the panic button.
  • There’s the “cheapo” route, which, is really just another “deterrent”: people put stickers on their windows and signs on their lawn saying that their house is monitored. That might work for you, but, what if the intruder decides to call your bluff? Not every security system is actually monitored. The intruder might know that, and, decide to find out whether you have that security system that you say you do.
  • There are a lot of options available to people who want a security system. If you want to go the cheapest route, you can opt to get a “do it yourself” “wired” system with no monitoring. Basically what this does is makes noise to scare the intruder away. This is pretty basic, and may include motion detectors. For a few bucks more, you can get a wireless system. Even though wireless systems cost more, they are hard to beat as far as ease of installation goes.
  • The only downside of installing the system yourself is that your out-of-pocket cost is slightly more initially than if you had opted to have your system professionally installed by an alarm monitoring company. For a lot of people, hiring a alarm monitoring company to install the home security system is the way to go. Sometimes, the monitoring company will give them the equipment and installation free. Of course, the catch to this is that they charge a hefty monitoring fee every month. Typically, the more of an out-of-pocket cost you have with the home security system, the less the monitoring fee is, and vice-versa.
  • Whatever you decide, make sure you get plenty of equipment to cover your house. You don’t want the intruder to get lucky and crawl in the one window that you didn’t install a sensor in. As they say, a chain is only as good as its weakest link. Make sure you have no weak links. Work on “deterrants” first, and, then get the security system. You’ll be glad you did.
