If your former Lawyer withdraws from representing you as a client, that Lawyer is prohibited by Florida law to assert any type of charging lien, fees, or costs against your subsequent recovery. If a client discharges an attorney, however, that Lawyer does have a right to assert a lien for fees and costs. Our office will almost always satisfy a former attorney’s lien out of our attorney fees. We don’t want our clients to feel penalized for switching to our firm. Therefore, if we are able to help you with your claim and assume the handling of your case from a prior attorney there is no extra cost to you.
Our main focus after you’ve been in an accident is your health and making sure you get all of the medical treatment that you need. You focus on getting better; we’ll worry about everything else.

Our firm, and many other attorneys, are happy to provide a copy of client’s files for no charge. Some attorneys however, have been known to insist their former clients pay them for a copy of their file. It is important to retain a copy of your file as our office, or any other new Lawyer, may need to see a copy of your file to determine the status of your claim. This information can help your attorney determine if your former attorney as already filed a lawsuit. If a lawsuit has been filed, your new attorney will need to see your file to find out the names of witnesses who may need to be deposed, what type of discovery still remains to be done, the status of any settlement negotiations, and if your case has already been scheduled on a trial docket. If your former Lawyer has not filed suit, your file may still contain important information necessary to properly settle your claim.
